The MaxiCOM MK900 is Autel's 2026 replacement for the long-running MK808 line, and it closes the single biggest gap in the mid-range: modern protocol support. Where the older MK808 series stops at conventional CAN, the MK900 adds CAN FD and DoIP - the protocols recent GM, VW, Volvo, Land Rover and BMW models require before a scanner can even open a connection.
Beyond that it brings a much wider service menu - 40+ reset procedures rather than 28 - plus bi-directional control with a large library of active tests. In practice it is a mid-priced tool doing work that belonged to the professional tier a couple of years ago.
Who we recommend this for
- Small workshops and independent garages - the sweet spot. Full-system diagnostics with the service functions that fill a normal working day: brakes, oil, steering angle, battery registration, DPF and TPMS.
- Mobile mechanics - enough capability to handle almost anything a customer calls about, without carrying a flagship-priced tablet to a roadside job.
- Anyone servicing vehicles from roughly 2018 onward - this is the real reason to choose the MK900 over a cheaper MK808. If newer cars are turning up in your bay, CAN FD and DoIP stop being optional.
- Enthusiasts with modern or premium cars - if you run something recent and want dealer-level visibility into it, this reaches systems that budget scanners simply cannot see.
Probably not the right tool if…
You mainly work on older vehicles, roughly pre-2018 - the MaxiCOM MK808Z covers those just as well for less money, and the protocols you would be paying extra for never come into play. At the other end, if you need ECU programming or module coding as daily work, look at the MaxiSYS MS906 Pro or MaxiPRO MP900. And for occasional personal use, this is considerably more tool than you need - the DiagLink or Launch CRP123X will serve you better.
Typical jobs it handles
- Full-system scan on recent vehicles that older scanners cannot connect to
- Bi-directional active tests to confirm a component before buying parts
- Electronic parking brake service mode for rear brake work
- DPF regeneration and diesel maintenance procedures
- Steering angle sensor calibration after alignment or suspension work
- Battery registration and BMS reset on start-stop vehicles
- Injector coding and throttle adaptation
- TPMS sensor relearn
- Pre- and post-repair scan reports for customers
